record numbers for Memorial weekend

Wyatt McGrath had an outstanding performance as Spring Creek Park held rounds 3 (Donny Schmit Memorial) and 4 of the FXR Super Series on a beautiful Memorial Day Weekend, taking homes all six moto wins in 14-24B, Schoolboy 2 and Open B. Drayton Dillon, Brandon Espe-Tieg and Jeff Rinkel all made life as difficult as possible for McGrath as they all went 2-2 in their particular classes but none could match his speed. McGrath totaled up three of the race entries out of a total of about 940 on Sunday so a spectacular turnout with probably the best weather for the holiday weekend in quite some time. A number of out-of-state riders were on hand, perhaps to check out the track before the upcoming regional amateur qualifier so that intensified competition too. The A-class motos were interesting as Josh Boaz faced challenges from Henry Miller, Joe Perron, and Jake Loberg at various times.
Checking out some classes from Sunday’s Super Series round 3:
Schoolboy 1 class moto one featured Wisconsin-based Milo Maas putting on a charge to the front early on and building on his lead a bit on each succeeding lap to take the win over Cade Groen by about 8 seconds at the flag. Brady Karolevitz ran well to hold third at the end, with Tanner Schlegel and Tanner Johnson rounding out the top 5. Schlegel surged to the front as the gate dropped on the second moto, and he held on to the lead for the first lap, but Maas cut by him to the inside as they rounded the turn by the announcing tower to start lap two. From that point, Maas controlled the lead to the conclusion of the moto while Schlegel maintained second. Groen finished just a bit back for third over Johnson, with Karolevitz snaring fifth.
Grayden Juenke blitzed through turn one to take the holeshot as the first 65cc 7-11 moto was unleashed from the line. But Jase Sonnenberg tracked him down to take over control on lap one, then held strong to take the win. Juenke was steady in second for the rest of the race to top Parker Labeau when they finally crossed the finish line. Fourth went to Jacob Mariner, with Eli Bumgardner in fifth. Moto two featured a nice holeshot by Brody Kratt, but he dropped back in the order while Sonnenberg moved up to the lead with Juenke and Mariner in tow at the finish. Logan Wittman improved from his first moto sixth to take fourth this time out, and fifth once again fell to Mr. Bumgardner.
Noah Miesen snapped up the holeshot money (Holeshot sponsors this weekend – ProKart Indoors, Meehan’s Juice Plus, and Hotkote)as the Open A class hit the track for moto one. Josh Boaz was close at hand, though, and swooped in for the lead. Wily pro-Henry Miller and Iowa’s Brennan Myers took up the chase. Miller, running to keep sharp for his pro team obligations, was maybe outgunned a bit as he was on a two-stroke but he started pressuring Boaz and, on the third lap, made a pass as they careened down the hill, jumping past Boaz and still managing to make the turn at the bottom of the hill. Boaz kept close for a couple of laps, but Miller was too quick and went on to take the win with a bit of a margin over him. Old-timer (30 Plus!) Joe Perron looked sharp as he took third over Jordan Biese and Jake Loberg.
Moto two saw Boaz pulling to the front as the pack rounded turn one as he just railed the outside berm wall to shoot down the FXR freeway in the lead. Boaz established a fast pace out front, but Loberg put in a very respectable effort as he kept it close all the way to the finale of the moto. Perron grabbed third this moto, with Jordan Biese and Myers rounding out the top five places.
