Pro Week Amateur Events – RD 7 and 8 of Super Series

July 12th and 14th

By Rolfe Otterness

Jase Sonnenberg, Brandon Haas and Ryder Malinoski kicked some butt at Round 7 of the Super Series,

each of them taking wins in three classes. Sonnenberg ran strong in the minibike classes. Haas showed

good pace in the 25+, 35+ and Open A races and Malinoski motored to victory in Schoolboy2, 250 B and

Open B classes. Impressive results considering that competition was strong with over 900 entries

totaled for the day. The track was in good shape for Round 7 but had some more challenges in store for

Round 8 as rain hit after the Pro race was concluded and it took a lot of dozer work to salvage the race.

But the Schaefer Tracks crew and the Spring Creek gang worked it over to pull off a decent day of racing.

The Pro Track Challenge reroute up a portion of Mount Martin was not in the cards though.

Jack Lambert jumped out to an early lead in Friday’s 60 Plus class with FXR head honcho Milt Reimer

slotting into second and Donny Bonnicksen trailing them in third. Lambert held on for a couple laps

with Reimer applying more and more pressure until finally making the pass on the white flag lap to take

the win. Bonnicksen was back a bit for third with Kansas-resident William Huffman fourth over the

resilent David Spizman. Reimer crushed it in moto 2, running off for the win and hitting the built-up

jumps more like a 16 year old than a 60 year old. Yikes! Lambert had to settle for second with Huffman,

Spizman and Bonnicksen rounding out the top 5.

Featuring a slightly younger crowd in the Schoolboy 1 class, there was a strong performance by Tanner

Schlegel running out front in moto 1 after another typical holeshot for the young master. His nemesis,

Kyler Hagedorn was right on his rear fender to keep him honest but couldn’t overtake the speedster out

front. At the checkered it was Schlegel with Hagedorn close behind, followed more distantly by Cash

Albertson and Carson Swedeen. Moto 2 played out much the same with Schlegel surging into the lead

at the start and Hagedorn providing pursuit. Schlegel pulled out a couple of seconds worth of real

estate between the two and held it to the flag. Swedeen improved for a third with Hunter Morse and

Nico Trkla scoring the 4-5 slots.

Sunday’s races were less populated due to the weather-related reluctance of the racers, but the Open C

class still had a respectable 21 entries. Cooper Bushman made his trip to SCMXP worthwhile as he ran

out front in both motos to take a first place trophy back to home state Montana. Local rider James

Schaffer kept him honest by running in for second place both times out. Spencer Hein tooke third with

a 4-3 score over the 4-3 result of Carter Drechsel while Josh Lynch rode in for fifth overall on a 6-5 day.
