Spring Creek Park’s 2024 Super Series Finale and Featured Event for the District 23 motocross schedule

was held on this fall day with a nice crowd on hand to swelter in the summer-like heat and partake in

some hot racing action. With the best eight races counting for the rider’s season point standing, some

good finishes could enable a rider to leapfrog past a competitor in the Super Series points. Points for

District 23 standings were also in play as the featured events offered bonus points. Considered the

most dominant rider in the Super Series this year would likely be Wyatt McGrath, champ in the

Schoolboy 2, 14-24B, 250B, and Open B classes. He won almost every moto he entered in those

classes. Outstanding year!

One rider that benefitted from this event, if my grasp of the math is correct, would be Gavin Pettit. His

win in the 14-24C class allowed the drop of one race with 16 points and replaced that with 35 points,

catapulting him to the lead over James Schaffer in the final standings. Jett Lewison jumped out front as

the class hit the ground for their first moto. Landon Roberts and Pettit quickly settled into

second and third. Pettit made a move to drop Roberts back on lap two and proceeded to cut into

Lewison’s lead until taking command on the last lap. Pettit was just a bit ahead of Lewison for the win

as the checkered flew and Roberts took third a bit adrift of the leaders. James Schaffer took fourth over

Willam Markkula. Moto 2 was Pettit’s show and he led early and over the same cast of

characters to snare the overall and wrap up the point championship in fine fashion.

Jaxon Arends laid down a scorching run on the start straight to lead the pack around turn one in the first

85cc 9-12 class moto. He had a good pace going and led Carson Wittman and Gavin Welzien around the

course for the first couple of laps. But Wittman closed in to take the lead on the last lap, leaving Arends

to deal with a challenge from Tucker Couette as the two charged up and down Collarbone. Couette

tried the outside line around the turn at the bottom but Arends had the shorter quicker inside line

covered and took the runner-up finish by a bike length or so. Brayton Wills and Welzien sailed past the

flag some seconds back to fill out the top five placings.

Wittman charged out front to lead in moto two with Arends in pursuit. Wittman built up a few seconds

of a buffer over Arends while Wills dealt with pressure from Couette for the majority of the moto, but

that was the final order at the flag with Welzien again taking fifth. Wills ended up with the points

championship with a big lead in the final points standings (+41) over Wyatt Edman.
